How To Prepare For Your Session

Filler

Because post-procedural swelling is to be expected, and can vary depending on which area is being injected, taking these steps prior to your procedure will aid in bringing down the swelling and minimizing possible bruising:

  • Minimize alcohol consumption for a minimum of 24 hours prior to injectable treatment. Alcohol can thin the blood making it easier for bruising to occur. It is best to avoid alcohol for a minimum of 3 days prior to injectable treatment.

  • Avoid certain supplements and medications before the procedure. It is best to avoid any blood thinning agents for at least 1 week prior to injectable treatment to minimize the occurrence of bruising.

    • Stop all NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications) such as aspirin, Advil, Aleve, Nuprin, Bufferin, Ibuprofen, etc. Tylenol is ok to use.

    • Stop all herbal supplements such as fish oil, ginkgo, ginseng, St. John’s Wort, garlic pills, etc. (a multi-vitamin is ok to continue).

    • Always discuss any history of allergies and current medications you are taking with your provider.

  • Start taking oral arnica montana prior to the procedure. Arnica montana is a natural supplement which helps to reduce swelling and bruising. Starting the supplement the day prior to the procedure and continuing after the procedure is recommended.

  • Avoid salty foods a few days before and after the treatment as excess sodium causes the body to retain water, which in turn can worsen swelling.

  • Avoid any depilatory treatments (hair removal, such as tweezing, waxing, etc.) for a minimum of 2 days prior to the treatment. Tell your provider if you are planning any chemical peel treatments or laser treatments as this may cause possible irritation at the treatment site.

  • If you have a history of cold sores, it is important to let your provider know. There is a risk that the treatment could lead to an outbreak, so your provider may want to treat you with Valtrex.

  • Tell your provider if you are on immunosuppressive therapy.

  • Tell your provider if you are pregnant or breastfeeding as the safety profile has not been studied on this group and injectable treatment should not be performed.

  • Come free of products and makeup.

  • Avoid caffeine 2 hours before treatment

  • Avoid any alcohol 24 hours before treatment

  • Avoid having any laser treatments on the area 2 weeks before treatment

  • Avoid excessive sun exposure 48 hours prior to treatment (we cannot treat skin which has been sunburnt)

  • If the skin is red, irritated or broken, we cannot treat until the skin has completely healed

  • Our treatments are not suitable for those who are pregnant or breastfeeding

  • Please advise of any blood thinning or skin thinning medications you are taking

  • Come in comfortable clothing that can easily be adjusted or removed when needed.

IV THERAPY

  • Hydrate - The minerals and vitamins infused via IV are dehydrating at the cellular level and your body will be more responsive if you are hydrated prior to starting the IV.

  • Relax and breathe. Once you are seated in the recliner chair waiting for your IV to begin, take a few minutes to relax.

  • Bring along your favorite book or music.

  • Wear comfortable clothes.

  • Have a light snack. (We can also provide you with one from our snack bar!)

Cool Sculpting

  • Protect Your Skin.  Avoid tanning, as the area that will be treated with CoolSculpting can get more sensitive. Should you burn in the sun, the treatment may cause an unpleasant feeling that you may want to avoid – think suction of the sunburnt skin! – so you would like to either avoid the sun altogether in the days prior to the treatment or postpone the treatment. The same goes for cuts, bruising, and any other wounds you might have. If you do have them, postpone your treatment. If you don’t, try avoiding activities that might cause them in the days leading to the treatment!

  • Stop Smoking. Smoking can slow the recovery process and delay the results. If you can, refrain from smoking for a week before CoolSculpting.

  • Eat a snack and stay hydrated.

  • Wear Comfortable Clothes.

  • Avoid taking any medications or supplements that thin your blood, such as aspirin, fish oil or St. Johns Wort.  These all have blood thinning properties that can make you more susceptible to bruising. It’s best to stop taking them at least one week before your session. However, before doing that please talk to your family doctor to make sure it’s okay. Your doctor may also suggest alternative medications that you can take during this time.

  • Make sure to bring along a book, iPad or other item to keep you occupied during your session.

  • Be prepared to have some photos taken of the targeted area before your session. We’ll take the photos before and after your treatment so that you can easily see the improvement once you return to your followup appointment.

Laser Hair Removal

  • Stop plucking and waxing.

  • Wear Loose Fitting Clothes on the Treatment Day.

  • Shave 24-48 hours before treatment.

  • Refrain from tanning.

  •  Do not use any topical products that cause photosensitivity (e.g. hydroxy acids, salicylic acid, retinols, and benzoyl peroxide) in the treatment areas for three days before treatment. Use a gentle cleanser and lotion on treated areas.

  • We ask that you are freshly showered or bathed with completely clean skin, without lotions, oils, creams or fragrances of any kind before coming in.
